I agree that Japanese are making mistakes trying to
imitate Western style in many things and doing good businesses making Japanese
people buy foreign things or things that look foreign. Some Japanese have
Xenophobia as my Japanese History teacher said, but most of them love Western
things even they make a joke and pretend to continue very Japanese and
sometimes really being very Japanese. But they really want to globalize Japan
in many ways.
What do you think? I think that if you can't laugh at your
funny differences you are being racist too. I see only funny things in the
adds. Even that odd smile is very Japanese: I guess it just means the opposite
of what he is saying being polite to the one that wants to change the Japanese
image. We foreigners know very well that everybody thinks "Japanese are
all the same". They are not and they know it and they know we think in the
way we think. I just think that Japanese are wrong in the way of becoming
globalized: they do not need to change (most of them really think they need).
It is a thing that they don't seem to understand I can't figure out why. Maybe
because they think they will or are not accepted in the way they are. But in my
point of view, they are so respectful with other people's religion an don't
make any comment regarding any different thinking style even they do not agree.
They can absorb all cultures very well. They just don't like extremisms what I
think is a good thing: "to walk the middle path" is an old and clever
proverb. They think you have to have a philosophy of life but can't be brain
washed (maybe because of the hard learning (according to many Japanese) that
their God, the Emperor, was a simple human man, with the World War II). It is
understanding the differences and accepting them that we will become
globalized. Changing only something that is against human rights or hurts or is
out of common sense like no equal rights under the law to woman and to man
everywhere in the planet for example.
